I once wanted to help build a distributed social network that protects privacy. After reading about the existing projects, I joined the secushare project. Developing a distributed social network is difficult, but the privacy part is even more complex. With GNUnet, we had found a promising project that met our privacy requirements. Since there is still a lot to do in GNUnet before it can be used productively I have now become a GNUnet developer.
